So my dad gave me a big hug and apologized to me. He said he didn't mean a word of it and that he shouldn't be so mean. It wasn't anything I did, he's just stressed. And he really is. He got a promotion a while back, and it's turned out to be a lot more than he expected it to be, and he's having a hard time.
I told him I couldn't believe he said those things to me, and he said he never even meant it, and sometimes he was taking his anger out in the wrong place. And all was well again. Which is good, because I hate not getting along with my daddy. We usually have a very good relationship, and when it's strained, it hurts. I'm never the one to make the first move though, I always let him come to me. It's just easier that way, because if you approach him at the wrong time, it just gets worse, y'know what I mean?
We watched part of a show on Egypt that I turned off within the first three minutes. It was all about their creation myth and stuff, and that's all about sex, masturbation and incest. Then they were going to get into what went on in the bedroom. While I would have normally found such a program rather interesting, with my daddy sitting right there, it was rather awkward watching pictures of giant phalluses shooting semen into the air. Just a teeny tiny bit. So I tried watching a show on gangsters. The acting of the people recreating it got on my nerves so much I changed it. Again, rather disappointing, because that stuff is very interesting. It was about the Untouchables! But all the acting consisted of nodding or shaking heads. And really cheesy acting to back it up. No thanks. James Woods did an excellent job narrating though.
The night was turning out really disappointing, television wise. The most disappointing part of it though was the movie
An American Haunting. I was so stoked for the movie, because I've been reading about the story the movie was based on since I was a little girl. I've been ghoulie and ghostie obsessed for a long time. Seriously, I played with my first Ouija Board when I was 5. I was a weird kid, I know. But that was my entertainment.
Anyways, the movie is based on the story of
The Bell Witch, a tale that is really fascinating when you read it. And the movie started off so well. It was going along, telling me the tale that I had grown up reading. Until it got to the end.
It ends by saying that Betsy Bell created the witch herself, to protect herself from her father, as he was sexually molesting her, and so she is the one that kills him in the end.
That pissed me off. First off, NOTHING points to John Bell EVER touched his daughter. NOTHING. This is all something that has been made up over the years, and many publications list it as fact. WRONG. Second off...JOHN BELL IS DEAD, and smearing him and his relationship with his daughter like that pisses me off, because he isn't around to defend himself! Oh that made me boil. And watching Betsy feed her father the poison while his wife and her mother sat there and watched just....UGH! It isn't right to smear people like that!
Then, the woman who was reading the story, happened to be related to Betsy Bell (who just happened to marry her teacher after all was said and done) and had picture of their "wedding" on her wall. First off, it looked ridiculous. Rachel Hurd-Wood, the girl who played Wendy in Peter Pan, looked ridiculously young next to the man playing her teacher/husband. Second, she's smiling and flashing a lot of teeth. And we all know how big her teeth are. Now I don't know about you, but I have never seen a person from that time period smiling like that. Ever. The smiling itself is alright, but the teeth thing bothered me. It didn't look right. Second, the phot was poorly photoshopped to look aged. It was way too pristine looking to be that old. Third, he dress did NOT look period at all, for one thing it was white. White weddings weren't at ALL popular. White weddings didn't really pick up until the middle of the 20th century I believe, though I could be wrong on that. And she had her hair down! WHY! It's extremely obvious that hair down was not the thing to do. Ugh. Please, it's not hard to get details right people.
But then, the womans daughter comes in, says her dad is there, and she's leaving. Woman turns and Betsy's ghost is there, warning her that her ex husband is molesting her daughter. WTF?! NOT COOL. Molestation is not the way to end things. Ever. They could have chosen a much better way to end this. And they shouldn't have done what they did to John Bell. It's just not right. Some manipulations of the truth come off fine in movies. This one didn't.I'm never watching this movie again.
